This notice explains what happens to information you share through the MYE website and what your browser saves while you use the course.

Who to contact
MuslimYouthEmpowerment (MYE) is a free entrepreneurship education program fiscally sponsored by The Hack Foundation (d.b.a. Hack Club), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 81-2908499.
For privacy questions, corrections, or deletion requests, email general@muslimyouthempowerment.org. Please identify the form and approximate submission date without sending identity documents or other unnecessary personal information.
Information you send us
- Student applications include contact information, age, general location, your preferred course path, and what you tell us about your idea and interest in the program.
- For applicants under 18, we also collect a parent or guardian’s name and email and the applicant’s acknowledgment of the parent contact step. The application email records its receipt time and the version of that notice. These are not records of parent permission. The team handles parent confirmation separately by email before arranging mentor contact.
- Mentor applications include contact information, professional experience, interests and availability. A phone number and profile link are optional.
- The question box sends your name, email address and message.
- Story submissions include your name, email, story, caption and any photos you choose to attach. A submission is for review and is not published automatically.
We use these submissions to review applications, respond to questions, coordinate participation and consider stories. Please include only what is needed. Do not send passwords, identity documents, payment details, private addresses or someone else’s personal information without appropriate permission.
Email and service providers
The website is hosted on Vercel. Form submissions are sent through Resend to our organizational email address, which uses Porkbun forwarding to our Gmail inbox. These providers process the information needed to host the website, deliver messages and operate email.
Hosting and email services may also process technical information such as IP addresses, request timestamps and delivery logs. Their own privacy and retention practices apply to their services. We do not sell form submissions or use them to sign you up for advertising.
Donations are handled separately through HCB and its payment providers. MYE’s website does not collect your card details. Read the notices displayed on HCB’s donation page before giving.
Students and families
The program serves grades 6–12. Before arranging mentor contact for a student under 18, the team must confirm participation directly with a parent or legal guardian. Read our information for parents for the process and how to withdraw permission.
Students ages 11 and up can apply directly through the website. Question and story forms do not ask visitors to confirm an age group. Please share only the information needed for your application, question or story.
Story submission does not grant automatic permission to publish. A feature needs separate confirmation from the people involved, including a parent or guardian for minors. If a child has shared information you want removed, contact us using the address above.
Cookies, saved work and course counts
Course answers and progress are saved in localStorage in your browser. Language, sound and visit preferences also use browser storage. This storage can remain until you or your browser clears it; it does not move with you to another device. The site uses an authentication cookie for the restricted administrator area.
Optional course statistics are off until you allow them. If allowed, the course sends future week-start and completion events to our server, and Upstash stores aggregate counts. These event payloads contain the week, event type and permission flag, not your name, email or course answers. Ordinary hosting requests can still create technical logs.
You can allow or turn off optional statistics anytime in Cookies & privacy settings. That page explains the stored information and how long it remains. Your choice does not affect saved lessons or participation.
The site does not currently use advertising pixels. Clearing this site’s browser data removes locally saved course work and preferences. Save anything you want to keep first. Clearing browser storage does not delete forms you have already emailed to us.
Retention and requests
Submitted forms become email messages used for review and follow-up. Our routine retention targets for records the MYE team controls are:
- Applications that do not lead to participation: 6 months after the team closes the application as unsuccessful, withdrawn or no longer proceeding.
- General questions: 6 months after the question is resolved or the team closes the inquiry.
- Stories and photos we do not publish: 3 months after the team closes the submission as declined, withdrawn or unused.
- Routine student and mentor participation records: While participation is active, then 12 months after participation ends.
The team must review records due for deletion monthly and review open cases after 90 days without meaningful contact. An active application or ongoing participation is not treated as closed just because an email is old.
Permission records, safeguarding concerns, disputes and financial or legally required records need a separate review before deletion. For these records, the team must keep only what is needed for the continuing purpose, restrict access and confirm any required retention period with HCB.
These exceptions do not justify keeping an entire application indefinitely. Publication permissions are kept while the approved material is in use, then reviewed for any continuing need.
This is a manual process. The website does not automatically delete messages from Gmail or other providers, and publishing this notice does not remove existing records. Provider logs, trash and backup copies may have different retention periods.
You can ask to access, correct or delete information you submitted, or ask how long it is needed. We will review the request and any records we need to retain for program administration or legal obligations, and explain any limitations. We may need to verify that the request concerns your information or your child’s information.
